A Quickie Before the Big One - Matt and Janine Elope at Boston City Hall
This is the year of small intimate weddings and elopements for me. Not sure how it happened, but it did. I have shot a total of five elopements this year so far and I have two more by years end. I love the small stuff because it tells me that my clients are willing to make photography their priority and not necessarily the bells and whistles of a big to do event. The couples that have a smaller scale type of wedding also REALLY care about the food and music as well. And this elopement and following ceremony are proof! I met Matt and Janine at the Kirkland Tap and Trotter for dinner on a Sunday night in April to talk about their wedding celebration of sorts. We met specifically at the restaurant because that was the location for their event. As we talked over drinks and amazing food, I discovered that Matt and Janine were getting married BEFORE their party. I mean a full month before. I was confused. They were inquiring about my intimate wedding coverage, not elopement pricing. They told me that their plan was to elope "this coming Friday at Boston City Hall". The party/celebration was a full month after at the restaurant. So I said to them, "Well you have to tell the story! You have to have coverage of your actual ceremony. Otherwise you are just going to be having me photograph a party. It kinda doesn't make sense. I would be happy to cover the elopement part too since you should get what you pay for, and the intimate wedding package covers the ceremony. Plus, I gotta tell the whole story."
They looked at each other and said "Well if you are willing to do that , we will hire you right this very second!" And that was that! Although when I realized that their elopement was about 5 days away, as I was talking to them, I was frantically texting my sitters to find out about childcare!!!!" Nailed a sitter (boy that sounded weird) and 5 days later I was spending time at City Hall in Boston, capturing Matt and Janine's teeny tiny wedding. Here are my favorites from their day.
Now you may be thinking, "Hey, what about the celebration at Kirkland Tap and Trotter?" Hang tight y'all. That's next week's blog. Promise.
