Just the Two of Us - Kaitlin and Adhi Wellesley College Club Wedding
Kaitlin and Adhi were married on October 3rd, with a ceremony and reception at the Wellesley College Club.
Although Kaitlin and Adhi currently reside in California, the Bay Area to be exact, they both grew up in the Boston area. Kaitlin is a song writer and creator of the amazing kid's hip-hop educational group, The Alphabet Rockers. Adhi is a former attorney that now works in the non-profit world. They are amazingly in love, and I adore them.
After they booked me, we tried to figure out how and when to do a practice session with them being on the west coast so far from me. They happened to be in town for only a couple days, and their only free day was the day we were moving into a new house! But I said, "Don't worry, let's go for it; this way I can get out of painting. At least for a couple hours.” They got me, I got them.
Kaitlin told me how they met:
“Over Christmas, my best friend, Allison, and I made a deal with each other about dating. We both would go online and commit to giving people a real, honest chance. In my case, I would go on 30 dates; she would go on 3 (reflective of our extraverted/introverted personalities).
Adhi and I met in March, 2014, the third person I had met. The person I had envisioned—fun, kind, smart, driven, and able to hang with a strong woman—was sitting across from me at dinner, making me laugh and making me vulnerable in the same visit. It was electric, and the next day I told my mom: I think I met someone special. By our 3rd date together, three days later, I was pretty sure he was it.
But what if I had gotten wrapped up in it—the moment, the fire, the attraction? I asked Adhi if he would be okay with me taking a week to myself, and we would meet up the following Monday. He was nerve-wracked by it but graciously gave me my space. Allison went on a trip that weekend, and while there, he texted me two mysterious Youtube links.
This was going to be it—the moment that really determined it for me:
Song 1: Cool it Now - or - Song 2: If it isn't Love
And the text: "What will it be?"
I melted. New Edition? Are you kidding? The man had sung and romanced his way in my heart. From then, I knew he was the right man for me. Two Bostonians who found each other in Oakland.”
I showed up at the venue a few minutes before my kick ass second shooter, Wayne Chinnock, and got right to work. I shot getting ready stuff; Wayne was rocking the details. The couple had opted for a first look, but before that, Kaitlin stepped into a rehearsal with her music partner, Tommy. You see, Kaitlin had written a song that she was planning to surprise Adhi with during their ceremony.
Then, I whisked Kaitlin to see her groom-to-be for a first look and formals. After that, it was off to get married! During their ceremony, there were a few moments that meant so much to me. First, their ceremony featured everyone in circles. Their officiant, Tomiquia, walked in to “Golden” by Jill Scott. Then, the couple's families danced down the aisle to “Safe and Sound” by Capital Cities.
And then Adhi and Kaitlin walked down the aisle to "Just the Two of Us" by Grover Washington Jr. When they did that, I burst into tears. You see, unbeknownst to them, Grover Washington was a very close friend of my family. He was my godfather in all but official title. Adhi and Kaitlin did not know any of this at the time, yet they stopped walking down the aisle and hugged me. So amazing. I felt like family for sure.
God... I loved all of it. All of the moments from that day really blend into one big happy memory for me.
After cocktails, it was time for their reception, which was filled with love, dancing, and dancing—and even more DANCING. And during the more dancing, Adhi had a surprise for Kaitlin. He and his friends serenaded her with "Only You" by 112 featuring Biggie and Mase. It was ridic!
Kaitlin and Adhi, being with you to celebrate your love and life was more than I could have ever asked for. I loved that you guys let me in and in turn I got to let you into my life as well. I am doing my best to get my bootie out there to visit soon.
