Juliana and Meryl’s SoWa Power Station Wedding

On November 2, 2024, Juj and Meryl tied the knot at the iconic SoWa Power Station in Boston’s South End. With its soaring industrial ceilings and dramatic city vibe, the venue set the stage for a day that was stylish, heartfelt, and unforgettable.

Their story started in the sweetest way, over challah and wine at a mutual friend’s Shabbat dinner. That spark eventually led them to Washington, DC, where Meryl planned a proposal that was thoughtful and completely unexpected. On what seemed like a casual walk, she sat Juj down on a bench, read her a letter she had written, and pulled out a ring. Juj was completely surprised. They celebrated afterward with cocktails alongside close friends and dinner at one of their favorite restaurants. It was simple, meaningful, and perfect.

When they are not planning weddings or sneaking away to one of their favorite bars, you will most likely find these two exploring the world one plate at a time. Eating and traveling are their shared love languages, although if you ask them, it is usually traveling to eat.

The Wedding Day

The wedding day at the SoWa Power Station was one of Boston’s most striking celebrations. It is a massive warehouse, basically a blank canvas just waiting to be transformed. Juj’s mother, Abby, who runs Twist Event Design & Management, left no stone unturned. Every single element was carefully thought through, and the result was breathtaking.

Juj wore a stunning gown by Danielle Frankel while Meryl looked radiant in FLORA Bridal. My second shooter, Caroline Alden Photography, was with me all day and absolutely nailed it. Together, we captured Juj and Meryl’s first look and private vows upstairs, away from the crowd. The way they spoke to each other in that quiet moment was powerful, and being able to witness and document it was such a privilege.

Afterward, Rabbi Stern led them in signing their ketubah, which Melanie Dankowicz beautifully designed. Then it was time for the big ceremony in the main warehouse space, where the industrial backdrop became the perfect stage for their vows in front of family and friends.

The Celebration

The reception kicked off with cocktails and an incredible performance from their band, The Flipside, which had everyone dancing. Later in the night, guests were treated to a wild 80s disco after party with The Glitter Boys spinning. Think sequins, neon lights, and pure joy until the early hours. It was everything you want an after-party to be and more.

Every detail was thoughtful and visually stunning, from the catering by The Catered Affair to the lush floral design by Rafael Floral Design. Their invitations, created by Lisa Wyatt of Mark Harris Stationers, set the tone long before the big day, and their rings, designed by Hannah Florman, were the perfect finishing touch to their love story.

A Personal Note

I have to say, being trusted to capture weddings in the LGBTQIA community is deeply meaningful to me. When I first started my business, many of my couples were same sex elopements because marriage equality was still new and only legal in a handful of states. I never take it for granted. There is a different kind of joy and gratitude in these celebrations, and I genuinely believe I am photographing history. Juj and Meryl’s day reminded me once again of why I love what I do. It was magical, emotional, and so much fun. I laughed all day, and it was an honor to be part of it.
